Foreign Ministry announcement regarding the transport and presence of Greek citizens in areas of northern Iraq

Through the Greek Embassy in Baghdad and in close cooperation with the other EU partners, the Foreign Ministry is monitoring the alarming developments in Iraq very closely.

Greek citizens planning to travel to Iraq are advised to avoid visiting the regions of northern Iraq and all areas throughout Iraqi territory where clashes and terrorist actions are taking place. All Greeks who are already in the region are asked to stay in ongoing contact with the Embassy in Baghdad (Tel: 00964-7903642046, -7801372165, -7722609949) and the Foreign Ministry’s Central Service (Tel: 210-368 1350/1730, e-mail: mdk@mfa.gr)

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos has given express instructions to the Greek Embassy in Baghdad regarding increased vigilance, ongoing communication with Greek citizens who are in Iraq, and maintenance of strict security measures.
