Foreign Ministry spokesperson Stratos Efthymiou's response to a journalist's question regarding an attack on a central Sinai checkpoint one kilometer from Saint Catherine's Monastery

"Our diplomatic authorities in Cairo are monitoring the issue continuously and are in constant contact with the Egyptian government and the Archbishop of Sinai. All of the monks and pilgrims are in good health and the situation is calm at Saint Catherine's Monastery. We condemn the attack and stand by the Egyptian people and their government.
