Foreign Ministry spokesperson’s statement regarding today’s statements from the leader of the Turkish Cypriot community, Mr. Eroglu

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Konstantinos Koutras made the following statement in response to journalist’s questions on statements made by the leader of the Turkish Cypriot community, Mr. Eroglu, regarding the supposed “existence of a Turkish Cypriot people, as well, in Cyprus, apart from the Greek Cypriot people”:

“International law, international legality, the resolutions of the UN and the EU, the whole of the international community, with the exception of Turkey, recognize one state in Cyprus: the Republic of Cyprus. A single state with a single international personality, a single citizenship and a single sovereignty, comprising the two communities – the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities.

Mr. Eroglu would do well to come into line, a long last, with the international legal order and contribute to the resolution of the Cyprus issue, thus also providing his good offices to the Turkish Cypriot community.”
