Greek and Indian entrepreneurs meet in the context of the Indian Prime Minister’s visit to Athens (25.08.2023)

The active interest of India's business community in strengthening their relations and contacts with Greece was confirmed at the meeting and working lunch between Greek and Indian entrepreneurs, held in the presence of the two Prime Ministers Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Narendra Modi during the visit of the Indian Prime Minister to Athens, on Friday, August 25, 2023.

The meeting of Greek and Indian entrepreneurs was jointly organised by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Economic Diplomacy and Openness, Kostas Fragogiannis, and the Prime Minister's Chief Economic Adviser Alexis Patelis.

On the Greek side, the meeting was attended by Minister of State Stavros Papastavrou, the President of the Union of Greek Shipowners Melina Travlos, the President of SEV Dimitris Papalexopoulos, the President and CEO of TEMES SA Achilleas Konstantakopoulos, the President of the Panhellenic Union of Pharmaceutical Industries and Co-CEO of ELPEN Theodoros Tryfon, the CEO of Eurobank Fokion Karavias, the businessmen Evangelos Mytilineos, Spyros Theodoropoulos and George Peristeris and the Secretary General of the Indo-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce and Economy Dimitris Melas.

On the Indian side, participants included the Deputy Director General at Confederation of Indian Industry Sujith Haridas, the CEO of the pharmaceutical company Emcure Samit Mehta, the Chairman of the ITC Group Sanjiv Puri, the CEO and the Head of Business Development of the GMR Group (construction sector) Srinivas Bommidala and Ohri Amresh respectively, UPL Group (chemicals/agrochemicals) group head Vikram Shroff, INTAS Pharmaceuticals group vice chairman Binish Chudgar, textile/apparel producer/exporter Shahi Exports Executive Director Harish Ahujia and Indian Trade and Investment Promotion Corporation (EEPC) chairman, Arun Garodia.

Discussions revolved around prospects and ways of strengthening economic cooperation and contacts between Greek and Indian companies, with emphasis on infrastructure sectors (ports, airports), high technology, renewable energy, tourism, food, pharmaceuticals and shipping.

Upon conclusion of the meeting, Deputy Minister K. Fragogiannis expressed his satisfaction with the positive climate in which the discussions were held and the mutual interest of Greece and India’s business communities in strengthening their cooperation. “I look forward to the systematic deepening of our bilateral economic relations and cooperation. In this regard, we are launching a business mission to India in the coming months", the Deputy Minister stated.
