The Greek Chairmanship of the Council of Europe continues its online “In discussion with ...” series with an international Greek woman who has done great work in the sectors of humanitarianism, education, culture and human rights, Marianna Vardinoyannis.
With actions that go beyond Greece’s borders, Mrs. Vardinoyannis recently received the UN’s Nelson Mandela award, the highest honour for humanitarian work. She is a unique Greek woman who, in September 2020, was awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of Beneficence by H.E. the President of the Hellenic Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou. She has been a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador since 1999. She is the President of the ELPIDA and ORAMA ELPIDAS Associations, and of the Marianna V. Vardinoyannis Foundation.
The discussion will be live streamed on Tuesday, 17 November, at 16:00. Opening remarks will be made by the Chair of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs Miltiadis Varvitsiotis. The discussion will be moderated by Alpha TV editor-in-chief Lora Ioannou.
These online discussions are part of the alternative digital actions of the Greek Chairmanship, which comes to an end on 18 November, providing, throughout this time, an institutional platform for dialogue – open to the public – with distinguished guests from Greece and abroad.
The objective of these digital discussions was to bring the institution of the Council of Europe closer to society and citizens. The central theme of the Greek Chairmanship was: “Protection of human life and public health in the context of a pandemic – Effectively responding to a health crisis with full respect for human rights, the principles of democracy and the rule of law.”
The online discussion will be available for live streaming on the website of the Greek Chairmanship of the Council of Europe, on the Greek Chairmanship’s YouTube channel and on the social media of the Greek Chairmanship of the Council of Europe.
