Interview of Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs Miltiadis Varvitsiotis on ALPHA 98.9 radio, with journalist Lora Ioannou - main points (24 November 2020)

“Ankara had a choice between two paths: The European path or that of a disruptive state. To date, it has not chosen to follow the right path. It questions all of the EU’s rules. The time has come for Europe to speak with one voice to Turkey,” Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs Miltiadis Varvitsiotis stressed in his interview today on ALPHA 98.9 radio, with journalist Lora Ioannou.

“Greek diplomacy is stressing that time is running out, and since Turkey did not decide to follow the right path, then we have to move on to the other option, which is to use the whole framework provided by European law to impose restrictive measures on Turkey,” he added.

Regarding Marianna Vardinoyannis’s participation in the series of online discussions hosted in the context of the Greek Chairmanship of the Council of Europe, Mr. Varvitsiotis stressed that her presence sent a message of Hope. “Starting the discussion series with scientists, we decided to close the series with Mrs. Vardinoyannis, precisely to send the message of hope that, beyond what scientists tell us, there is human nature and hope for a new and better day. And I don’t think there is anyone better to express that message than Marianna Vardinoyannis, whose many years of charitable work are a manifestation of the notion of hope.”
