Interview of Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs Miltiadis Varvitsiotis on MEGA TV with journalists Nikos Filippidis, Bagia Antonopoulou and Tzina Moscholiou - main points (Athens, 6 March 2020)

On this morning’s ‘Kinonia Ora Mega’, with journalists Nikos Filippidis, Bagia Antonopoulou and Tzina Moscholiou, Alternate Minister Miltiadis Varvitsiotis sent the message that Greece serves the principles of justice, while Turkey is serving only the principles of interest.

He also pointed to an “unprecedented show of solidarity on the European level,” referring to the visit of the heads of the European institutions to Evros and to the unanimous decision of the Justice and Home Affairs Council. He said that we are asking Europe to stand by us in solidarity against the asymmetrical threat our country is facing, and Europe is doing so.

The Alternate Minister called migration “the most divisive issue in Europe – the issue on which there is the least possible consensus.” Referring to the 2016 programme for refugee relocation, he commented that it was not a very successful programme and that it has been rejected by the majority of the members of the European Council.
