“Turkey has found closed doors in Europe. Mr. Cavusoglu saw this when he came to the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs, following my briefing of the Committee, where the climate was obviously negative for Turkey. No one accepted his arguments. In other words, that the islands don’t have EEZs, that Turkey respects international law despite not having signed the Law of the Sea, and that we should go to the negotiation table with no conditions. The international community as a whole is saying one thing to Ankara: You have to stop the provocations and then enter into dialogue.”
Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs Miltiadis Varvitsiotis said this, among other things, in his interview on MEGA Savvatokyriako, with journalists Stella Gantona and Dinos Siomopoulos. He added that Greece has sent a clear message to Turkey that dialogue cannot take place under armed threat. He also noted the importance of the statements made in Cyprus by U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who said Turkey’s provocations must stop so that dialogue can begin.
