“In Europe, there is a strong wave that wants to put an end to Turkey’s provocations. The voices against the way Turkey is conducting itself are growing louder and louder. Europe must make it clear that this provocative behaviour is unacceptable,” Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs Miltiadis Varvitsiotis said in his interview on Parapolitika 90.1 FM, on ‘Bras de fer’, with journalists Dimitris Takis and Christina Korai.
More specifically, Mr Varvitsiotis highlighted that the EU’s policy of appeasement towards Turkey has failed. “Europe needs to realise that it cannot have interests in an unstable region. This is why it is important for it to take on a strong geopolitical role, to ensure its own geostrategic autonomy,” he said.
In response to a question on the sanctions issue at the December meeting of the European Council, the Alternate Minister underscored that “the Greek government is in ongoing negotiations, on all levels, trying to shape the largest possible alliance in Europe.”
