Interview of Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs Miltiadis Varvitsiotis on SKAI TV, with journalist Giorgos Aftias (12 April 2020)

In his interview Sunday morning on SKAI TV’s ‘Kalimera’, with journalist Giorgos Aftias, Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs Miltiadis Varvitsiotis sent a message of resolve in the guarding of our borders in Evros and the Aegean, for reasons of national security and protection of public health due to the coronavirus.

Asked about Ankara’s effort to send migrants infected with the coronavirus to Greek islands, Mr. Varvitsiotis sent a message to Turkey that “Greece has borders and will protect them.”  He also stressed that the Greek government has shown resolve in dealing with and preventing the exploitation of refugees and migrants in Evros and in the Aegean. He said that, for reasons of national security and to protect public health, the Coast Guard has orders to stop any vessel attempting to enter Greek waters illegally. “Today, Greece is showing that it can guard its borders. And this is what it will continue to do.”
