In his interview today on Star Channel’s evening news, with journalist Katerina Panagopoulou, Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs Miltiadis Varvitsiotis accused Turkey of carrying out an organized plan for using people without a refugee profile. He added that, from the very first moment, the Greek government sent a clear message that these people are not welcome.
“They didn’t end up on our borders by chance. They aren’t coming from Idlib. They are people who speak Turkish, who have been in Turkey for a number of years. They aren’t coming from Syria and it is obvious that they themselves are willing to be used,” he stressed.
Mr. Varvitsiotis also noted that the Greek forces are on constant alert and that the state is taking coordinated action with the police, the coast guard and the army – and that there is no need for extreme conduct. He also added that Europe is commending our country on its handling of the situation.
