Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs, Miltiadis Varvitsiotis, was interviewed today on Thema 104.6 Radio, by journalists B. Koutras and N. Felekis.
Mr. Varvitsiotis pointed out that he sees a trend towards Turkey’s isolation rather than the strengthening of its relations. Greece is internationalizing its position, as “the goal is to build precisely this relationship of trust with our partners and friends.” The Mitsotakis-Trump meeting is taking place in this context. He also added that “we have not sent Turkey a message that we want to escalate the situation.” In fact, the country's political leadership as a whole is talking about dialogue, but you can’t have dialogue with gunboats and deployment of forces.
The Alternate Minister made it clear that, as a country, we have the means to repel any violation of our national space. “The plans and scenarios are drawn up in every direction. It is never our goal to militarise a diplomatic crisis,” he added. Finally, he said we are well on our way to delimiting EEZs with Italy.
