Alternate Minister for Foreign Affairs Miltiadis Varvitsiotis spoke to ‘Proto Thema’ radio and journalist Giannis Pretenteris about the visit by US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo to our country, as well as the upcoming EU Summit in Brussels. “The Joint Statement regarding the U.S.-Greece Strategic Dialogue is one more weapon in our arsenal of arguments; it recognises International Law instead of equity as the means of resolving our disputes with Turkey”, he stressed.
With regard to the EU Summit, Mr Varvitsiotis noted that Turkey will be called upon to make a choice between normalising its relations with Europe, which requires normalising its relations with Greece and Cyprus, and persisting in its provocative conduct, resulting in sanctions that will adversely affect the Turkish economy.
Finally, with respect to the explosive situation in the Caucasus region, he commented on Turkey's involvement, noting that “Erdoğan's actions are an attack against the security architecture of the EU”.
