As of Monday, 21 September 2026, the new digital platform of the Service of the Diplomatic and Historical Archives (YDIA) will be available both at the Reading Room and online at arxeio.mfa.gr.
Through the new platform, researchers will be able to consult, without prior registration, the catalogues of the declassified archival material held by YDIA.
As part of the project, tens of millions of pages of archival material were digitized and microfilmed, tens of thousands of archival files were classified and arranged, and a comprehensive digital infrastructure was developed for the secure preservation, easy retrieval and controlled use of the archival material, in accordance with the applicable access framework.
The new platform provides authorized researchers with access to the digitized archival material and the ability to conduct research on it, including through the use of Artificial Intelligence tools.
The Archives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs constitute the institutional memory of Greek foreign policy. Through their classification and digitalisation, their preservation is enhanced, as is their value as a tool for research and the conduct of diplomacy.
