Minister of Foreign Affairs George Gerapetritis’ message on Europe Day (09.05.2025)

The year 1950 marked a historic turning point for Europe, with the Schuman Declaration of May 9 paving the way for the creation of a united continent based on two fundamental principles: peace and solidarity.

80 years since the end of the Second World War and 75 years since the commencement of the European integration process, our responsibility to preserve the lessons of that historic period remains intact. At a time of geopolitical volatility and instability, we must intensify our efforts, both at the EU and the international level, to safeguard the values of democracy, freedom and human dignity.

Greece, as one of the oldest member states of the European Union, remains firmly committed to the European integration endeavor, with the overarching objective of fostering a peaceful, united, and prosperous Europe. Against a backdrop of successive crises and contemporary challenges, our country continues to work systematically for a Europe with a clear orientation, strategy and a strong footprint on the international scene.
