The 80th UN General Assembly of the United Nations commenced today, with Greece being at the heart of the Organization, in the Security Council. We had the opportunity to hold a series of bilateral meetings with Ministers of Foreign Affairs from Europe, Asia, Africa, and Latin America. As a member of the Security Council, Greece is significantly enhancing its diplomatic presence, further expanding its global outreach and regional alliances.
We also had the opportunity to chair the Conference of the Ancient Civilizations Forum, which was held at the ministerial level, an initiative that brings together countries with common interests, deep cultural heritage and a common focus on the values of antiquity and the modern world.
Finally, we participated in the Conference on the Two-State Solution, convened by France and Saudi Arabia. This conference focused on the Palestinian issue. Greece has a clear and longstanding position on this matter. We have consistently been at the forefront in humanitarian issues. We have already provided substantial humanitarian aid, offered medical care to children from Gaza, and continue to support the Palestinian Authority. With regard to the recognition of Palestine, Greece believes that the establishment of a Palestinian state based on the pre-1967 borders is the solution. In this regard, timing is the main issue. We believe that the recognition of the Palestinian state should occur at the end of the political process and under the auspices of the United Nations.
