Today, following an invitation extended by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Jordan and Sweden, I attended the extraordinary virtual pledging conference for financial aid to the UNRWA, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine refugees.
I first expressed Greece’s concern regarding the impact of the coronavirus pandemic that has further exacerbated the humanitarian crisis being experienced by Palestine refugees, both in the Gaza Strip and in other countries they reside.
Regarding the Gaza Strip, in particular, the current situation adds further challenges to an already complex reality. Under these circumstances, the work of the UNRWA is ever more important, both for providing the necessary services to Palestine refugees and for ensuring stability in the wider region. In light of the above, I informed my interlocutors that Greece, in a spirit of solidarity, intends to provide additional financial aid to the best of its ability.
