Ministry of Foreign Affairs announcement on the ceasefire announced in Libya

Greece welcomes today's announcement of a ceasefire in Libya, with the hope that this will serve as a positive first step towards finding a political solution through national conciliation, through free and fair elections under international monitoring that will ensure peace, stability and full independence for the Libyan people, whose just expectations must now be fulfilled.

Greece has consistently advocated for a solution to the Libyan crisis on the basis of the Resolutions of the UN Security Council and the Conclusions of the Berlin Process, and for an end to foreign intervention in Libya.

Furthermore, Greece is willing to play a constructive role in the future of Libya and its neighbours in the Eastern and Central Mediterranean, on the basis of International Law and the long-standing friendship between the Greek and Libyan peoples.

We call upon all parties to invest in this effort in order to ensure the freedom, sovereignty, territorial integrity and reconstruction of Libya for the benefit of all Libyans.
