Secretary General for Int’l Economic Relations G. Tsipras addresses an event on “Greece-Iran: A New Era in Bilateral Trade & Economic Relations” (Athens, 22 October 2015)

The Foreign Ministry’s Secretary General for International Economic Relations, Giorgos Tsipras, participated as a speaker in an event on “Greece-Iran: A New Era in Bilateral Trade & Economic Relations”, which was co-hosted by the Panhellenic Exporters Association and the Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry, with the support of the Greek International Business Association and Euroconsultants S.A.

In his address, Mr. G. Tsipras stressed that, despite the extraordinary circumstances, the government’s views and choices in the direction of foreign policy and economic diplomacy are being vindicated. He also noted that, within Gthis framework, the government was early in spotting the opportunities and prospects opening up with Iran, given that the two economies can complement one another, creating opportunities for Iranian investments in Greece and the upgrading of bilateral commercial relations in the sectors of services, products and energy, as well as in the culture and tourism sectors.

Mr. G. Tsipras noted that the above findings are also supported by the conclusions from his visits to Iran, while he highlighted his conviction that Iran has a sincere desire to tighten its relations with Greece and make Athens its link with the European Union and the west in general.

Finally, Mr. G. Tsipras assured those present that the Foreign Ministry and, more specifically, the Secretariat General for International Economic Relations will provide tangible support for the efforts to upgrade Greek-Iranian bilateral economic relations, and he thanked the Greek Ambassador to Iran and the Iranian Ambassador to Athens for their tireless efforts in this regard.
