Secretary General for Public Diplomacy Konstantinos Alexandris attends the plenary meeting of the Club of Venice (Venice, 4-6 December 2019)

In his speech, on “Sharing Values,” the Secretary General for Public Diplomacy, Konstantinos Alexandris, presented the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ newly established General Secretariat for Public Diplomacy and set out the goals and function of Public Diplomacy. “Communicating ideas, values and culture, we speak to people’s hearts and minds. This is the essence of Public Diplomacy,” he stated, pointing, at the same time, to Greece’s role in the field of cultural and religious diplomacy.

The Secretary General for Public Diplomacy also underscored that the bicentennial of the declaration of the Greek Revolution “is an excellent opportunity for us to reflect on what we have achieved during these two centuries and how we influenced developments and were influenced over the course of these 200 years, on both a national and individual level,” stressing that the legacy of the past is inspiration for the future.

The Club of Venice is a platform for cooperation and exchange of views on communication issues between the competent agencies of the EU member states and the institutions of the EU.
