Spain-Greece Business Forum / Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Economic Diplomacy and Openness, K. Fragogiannis meets with Spanish Secretary of State for Trade, Xiana Mendez (Athens, 24. 05. 2022)

The prospects for further strengthening economic and business relations between Greece and Spain, in Greece's constantly improving investment environment, were highlighted by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Economic Diplomacy and Openness, Kostas Fragogiannis, addressing the Spain-Greece Business Forum held today, Tuesday, May 24, 2022, in Athens. Mr. Fragogiannis underscored that Greece is becoming an energy hub for the transportation of natural gas and electricity to central Europe, which presents investment opportunities in the field of RES.

The Spain-Greece Forum was organized on the initiative of the Spanish Embassy in Athens and the Spanish trade and investment promotion agency ICEX, in cooperation with the corresponding Greek export and investment promotion agency Enterprise Greece and with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the General Secretariat for International Economic Relations and Extroversion.  

During the forum - which was attended by 17 Spanish and more than 50 Greek companies - discussions focused on the areas of infrastructure, transport, energy and renewable sources, as well as on liquid and solid waste management, while the active interest of Spanish companies in doing business in Greece was confirmed.

In his address, delivered via videorecorded message, the Secretary General for International Economic Affairs and Openness of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and President of Enterprise Greece, Ioannis Smyrlis, expressed his conviction that there is significant scope for further strengthening economic and trade relations between the two countries. Mr. Smyrlis briefly outlined the investment opportunities in various sectors of the Greek economy and invited Spanish businessmen to take advantage of them. "In addition to the traditional sectors of tourism and real estate, new sectors such as RES and technology can form the basis for the deepening of our bilateral economic relations", the Secretary General pointed out, concluding his speech.

The forum was also attended by the Spanish Secretary of State for Trade and President of ICEX Xiana Mendez, who spoke about the favourable prospects for strengthening economic and business cooperation between Greece and Spain. Mr. Fragogiannis' discussion with Ms. Mendez, during the bilateral meeting of the two Deputy Ministers held within the framework of the Forum, also focused on the areas of mutual interest with the greatest potential for the promotion of bilateral economic relations.
