Statement by Deputy Foreign Minister Y.Amanatidis following his meeting with Theodore II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and all Africa (Alexandria, Egypt)

‘His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and all Africa, is the prelate of love and simplicity. Today, we had the pleasure of meeting with him in his ancient See, to discuss the entire range of issues and needs of the Patriarchate, which acts as a beacon of hope for Orthodoxy and Hellenism through its missionary, humanitarian and educational actions.

His Beatitude and I,  share the conviction,, that Africa is the continent of the future and that, in deepening our relations with African nations, the Church of Alexandria is instrumental as is the positive presence of representatives in the respective states along with the multivariate contribution of local dioceses. For our part, Greece is making an effort to be there and to help the Patriarchate meet its needs so that it may continue to perform its great work in an unhindered manner.’
