Today's rejection of Mr. Beleris' appeal to be released from jail, in order to assume his duties as the new Mayor of Himare, directly impedes his swearing in and raises deep concern about the real motivations behind his prosecution.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is closely monitoring developments and expects the neighbouring country to respect the presumption of innocence - a fundamental element of the Rule of Law.
