“Today we had the pleasure of hosting, I would say, a very successful working breakfast of the EU Ministers of Foreign Affairs, with our two colleagues from North Macedonia and Albania as guests. Over 20 European Ministers of Foreign Affairs were present today. It was a useful first opportunity, following the October European Council meeting, to exchange views on how we can move ahead in the coming time.
A request was submitted for improvement of the enlargement methodology and keeping the European perspective of North Macedonia and Albania – and of the other countries of the region – high on the agenda, always in the context of compliance with the European acquis, of course.
I think that, to a degree, we achieved something today. A fruitful and substantial discussion, and a step forward. We will continue to work for a positive development, possibly this coming March, in the desired direction.
Greece is the oldest EU member state in the region. It is a factor for stability and promotion of cooperation, and it will continue to take initiatives in this direction.
Shortly, I will participate in the Foreign Affairs Council, where we will discuss, among other things, the groundless memorandum of cooperation between Turkey and Libya.
I am certain that, in this case as well, the council of Ministers will rise to the circumstances.
Thank you.”
