Written statement of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikos Dendias, following the international donors videoconference on Yemen (2 June 2020)

The international donors videoconference on Yemen, in which I participated today, is an important initiative of the United Nations and Saudi Arabia for provision of the necessary assistance to the country.

The population of Yemen has been plagued for years now by a humanitarian crisis resulting from the protracted civil war, which was added to by the repercussions of the coronavirus pandemic.

In this context, I expressed Greece's concern at the conditions faced by the people of Yemen, and I stressed our country’s support for the efforts of the UN Secretary General’s Special Envoy for Yemen, Martin Griffiths, towards a ceasefire and the reopening of the political process.

Moreover, I expressed Greece’s willingness to contribute, as it has done in the past for Yemen, to mitigating the repercussions of the humanitarian crisis.
