October 24, 2026 marks the 81st anniversary of the founding of the United Nations, guardian of international peace and security and an institutional pillar of multilateral cooperation in addressing global challenges and safeguarding human rights.
Greece, as a founding member of the United Nations, an elected member of the Security Council and holder of its Presidency for the second time during its current two-year term, actively supports the work of the Organisation in promoting the prevention and peaceful settlement of international disputes and averting the escalation of conflicts through diplomacy and dialogue.
At a particularly critical international juncture, with numerous armed conflicts taking place around the world and amid multiple crises of a global nature, unwavering commitment to International Law, including the Law of the Sea, and to the fundamental principles of the Charter of the United Nations remains a paramount priority and is more imperative than ever.
