Announcement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding yesterday’s statement by the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Türkiye (20.08.2026)

The statement issued yesterday by the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Türkiye regarding the new Special Spatial Planning Framework for Renewable Energy Sources contains a series of unfounded, entirely unacceptable claims that must be rejected.

The reiteration of the same baseless claims, for the second time in just twelve days, following the similar Turkish reaction to the Special Spatial Planning Framework for Tourism, demonstrates persistent adherence to revisionist positions, which have no legal basis whatsoever.

The status of sovereignty in the Aegean is absolutely clear. Greece’s sovereignty is clearly and definitively established by international treaties and is not open to challenge. Any other approach runs contrary to International Law and will be met with an appropriate response.

Greece consistently supports dialogue and good-neighbourly relations with Türkiye and remains committed to resolving the only Greek-Turkish dispute, namely the delimitation of the continental shelf and the Exclusive Economic Zone, in accordance with International Law.
