Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Diaspora Greeks Antonis Diamataris meets with the Deputy Minister for Education, Research and Religious Affairs, Sofia Zacharaki (Athens, 29 August 2019)

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Diaspora Greeks, Antonis Diamataris, met on Thursday, 29 August, with the Deputy Minister of Education, Research and Religious Affairs, Sofia Zacharaki. The meeting took place in a climate of productive and friendly cooperation, focusing on education issues of key importance to diaspora Greeks.

Mr. Diamataris referred to the postings of some 700 educators who teach at diaspora schools, the importance of consultations with the educators serving abroad, and the need to assess and train them before they take up their duties abroad.

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs also referred to the series of books currently used by most schools, stressing the important role of e-teaching and digital schools, and underscoring that the state needs to be in a position to provide on-line education in the coming 1 to 2 years.

Ms. Zacharakis talked about the Education Ministry’s plans to open new Offices for Coordinating Education in the western states of the U.S. and in Latin American countries, underscoring the Ministry’s intention to cover diaspora schools’ faculty needs. She also said that earlier approval of educator secondments to posts abroad is being planned to ensure there is adequate time for additional training.
