Minister of Foreign Affairs George Gerapetritis’ statements following his meetings with the Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity of Libya, Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, and the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Al Taher Salem Al Baour (Tripoli, 27.04.2026)

It was an exceptional honor to be here in Tripoli today, to meet for the second time with the Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity of Libya, Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, and the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Al Taher Salem Al Baour.

I would like to sincerely thank the Government in Tripoli for their very warm welcome and hospitality. We had the opportunity to discuss a wide range of issues concerning our bilateral relations. Matters relating to bilateral trade, cooperation on migration, cooperation within international organizations, as well as culture and education.

We decided to activate the Joint Committee, which will address key priority issues, reassess agreements that have already been signed, and propose new ones. It is important that two directly and genuinely neighboring countries, such as Greece and Libya, maintain excellent cooperation in the current turbulent geopolitical environment of our region, advancing matters of mutual interest while fostering peace and prosperity.

We also agreed to advance discussions within the technical committees concerning the delimitation of the continental shelf and the Exclusive Economic Zone, to enhance cooperation within international organizations with a forward-looking perspective, and to work together in a framework where both countries benefit from mutually advantageous agreements.
