Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Konstantinos Vlasis meets with the Armenian and Russian Ambassadors to Greece (Athens, 21 February 2020)

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Konstantinos Vlasis today met at his office with the Ambassadors of Armenia and Russia, Fadey Charchoghlyan and Andrey Maslov, respectively.

The Armenian Ambassador, Mr. Charchoghlyan, underscored that the two countries maintain excellent bilateral relations and stressed that, beyond trade and diaspora issues, cooperation can be extended to culture and education.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Konstantinos Vlasis referred to the close cultural and religious ties between the two countries and the trilateral Greece-Cyprus-Armenia cooperation on diaspora issues, proposing that a new meeting be held soon.   

The Russian Ambassador, Mr. Maslov, initially referred to the meetings of Ministers of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias and Sergey Lavrov in November, in Moscow, and in February, at the Munich Conference, as well as the meeting between the Secretary General of the Hellenic Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Themistoklis Demiris, and the Russian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alexander Grushko, at the beginning of this month, in Moscow. He also referred to the “Greece-Russia Year” events that have been held with success in recent years.

Deputy Minister Vlasis underscored the longstanding ties between the two countries, with emphasis on history and Orthodoxy. He also pointed to the potential for even greater development of bilateral relations, expressing his desire to visit the Greek diaspora communities in southern Russia.
