The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, responsible for European Affairs, Tasos Chatzivasileiou, travelled to Strasbourg on Monday, July 6, 2026, to attend the European Parliament’s Plenary Session.
In this context, and with the aim of maintaining regular contacts with the EU Parliament and its representatives, in preparation for the Greek Presidency of the Council of the EU in the second half of 2027, the Deputy Foreign Minister held a series of institutional meetings.
During his visit, Deputy Minister Chatzivasileiou met the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola. The discussion covered a range of issues, including current developments concerning the role of the European Parliament in shaping major European policy decisions. The discussion also focused on the continuation of the Government's close cooperation with the European Parliament, in view of the Greek Presidency.
Furthermore, Mr. Chatzivasileiou met with the President of the European People's Party (EPP), Manfred Weber, with whom he exchanged views on the need to strengthen the competitiveness of the European economy, European security and defence, as well as Greece's contribution to shaping European Union policies.
The visit concluded with working – level meetings of the Deputy Minister with high-ranking officials of the European Parliament and representatives of other European parties.
