Event on “Touching our cultural heritage” (Athens, 3 December 2019)

On Tuesday, 3 December, marking International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the Secretariat General for Public Diplomacy and Consular Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Tactual Museum hosted an event on “Touching our cultural heritage.”

The aim of this initiative was to promote the work of the Tactual Museum, one of the few of its kind in the world that gives visually impaired individuals the opportunity to familiarise themselves with masterpieces of ancient Greek civilisation through the sense of touch.

In his welcome speech, the Secretary General for Public Diplomacy, Konstantinos Alexandris, noted that it was a conscious choice to launch the public activities of the newly established Secretariat General for Public Diplomacy at the Tactual Museum, promoting an innovative action taking place in our country in the sector of culture and sending the message that culture, as our common heritage, must be accessible to everyone. “The Tactual Museum puts ‘man is the measure of all things’ into practice,” he added, inviting the guests to touch the magic of ancient Greek art.

The event, which took place under the auspices of Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonis Diamataris, was also attended by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Economic Diplomacy and Openness, Kostas Fragogiannis, the Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Affairs, Domna Michailidou, members of the diplomatic corps and representatives of foreign news media.
