Within the framework of the proceedings of the Meeting of NATO Ministers of Foreign Affairs (Brussels, 6-7 December 2016), Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias had a bilateral meeting today with his Georgian counterpart, Μikheil Janelidze.
During the meeting, they discussed issues concerning Georgia’s relations with the North Atlantic Alliance and the European Union, as well as issues of bilateral and regional interest.
The Georgian Foreign Minister thanked Greece for its assistance in promoting EU-Georgian cooperation and, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary, in 2017, of the conclusion of diplomatic relations between Greece and Georgia, extended an invitation for Mr. Kotzias to visit Tbilisi.
Mr. Kotzias referred to the age-old bilateral historical and cultural ties between Greece and Georgia, and proposed ways to expand the academic and cultural cooperation between the two countries, highlighting Greece’s will to provide scholarships for Georgian students.
Foreign Minister Kotzias accepted his Georgian counterpart’s invitation to visit Georgia in the immediate future and expressed Greece’s fervent support for Georgia’s efforts towards liberalization of the visa regime for its citizens entering the Schengen Area.
