Energy Cooperation in Central and Southern Europe was discussed by the Foreign Ministers of Greece, Serbia, FYROM and Hungary, and the European Affairs Minister of Turkey today, Holy Tuesday, 7 April 2015, in Budapest. Greece was represented by Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias.
Mr. Kotzias made the following statement at the joint press conference following the Meeting:
“I thank you for this meeting. I believe that the most important thing is that the five countries, three of which belong to the European Union, are working together. In these times, this is the most important thing: cooperation on many issues that impact our lives.
The second important thing is that we discussed energy security issues in a global community with many unanswered questions regarding security. It is very important that we provide energy and security.
In a world where many states believe that they need to implement austerity as an economic policy, it is very important to find alternative solutions, like low-cost credit or competitiveness through cheap energy. Our cooperation is thus important for the future of our peoples, the economy, because it can transform the whole region.
I express my thanks to the Foreign Minister of Hungary, Peter Szijjarto, and to everyone who is here today.”
