Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Diaspora Greeks, Antonis Diamataris, and the Cypriot Presidential Commissioner for Overseas Cypriots, Fotis Fotiou, today signed a new memorandum of cooperation on diaspora issues.
In joint statements following the signing, the two officials underscored their shared conviction that there is but one Hellenism. “We are one people, one nation, we are brothers,” the Deputy Foreign Minister stressed. Referring to the memorandum, Mr. Diamataris underscored that “it is aimed at further strengthening cooperation and coordination between Greece and Cyprus in the Diaspora sector, and it focuses on areas of privileged cooperation, such as education, culture and art – and especially youth, the future of our people and our nation.”
The Cypriot Presidential Commissioner underscored that “we need to further enhance our relations so that this large national capital that is the Hellenic Diaspora can play its important role in promoting our national issues, especially at this difficult time, with the violations of our sovereign rights by Turkey and the violations of international rules, the Law of the Sea and international legality in the Cypriot exclusive economic zone.”
Those present at the signing of the memorandum of cooperation included Syriza MP and former Deputy Foreign Minister Ioannis Amanatidis, the Secretary General for Diaspora Greeks, Ioannis Chrysoulakis, and the chairman of the Inter-party Committee on Greeks Abroad, Savvas Anastasiadis.
