Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs Miltiadis Varvitsiotis was interviewed on Alpha 989 Radio today, by journalist Katia Makri.
He stressed that Turkey has managed to isolate itself and colour itself as a troublemaker and a factor for instability in southeastern Europe, constantly focusing the public discourse on negative developments in recent months.
He expressed the view that “in this revision of powers he has attempted around the Mediterranean basin, Mr. Erdogan has so far gained more enemies and fewer friends.”
Subsequently, Mr. Varvitsiotis noted that it seems the Turkey-Libya agreement will be condemned by the European Council, from which Greece expects to get a strong message of support.
Finally, the Alternate Minister underscored that Greece’s diplomatic marathon will not stop here, as the Greek side will be making a number of moves in the coming time.
Already, he noted, the delimitation of Greece’s maritime zones is being discussed, “especially in relation to Italy, with whom the talks are very advanced, and this will be the first step. Talks of this kind have also begun with Egypt.”
