Interview of Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs Miltiadis Varvitsiotis on THEMA 104.6 radio - main points (16 February 2021)

“Turkey is clearly in a restless phase in terms of how it is dealing with international relations. It has become unpredictable and unstable, and if it wants rapprochement with the EU, it will have to show commitment to and respect for the European acquis and the rules of International Law,” Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs Miltiadis Varvitsiotis said in an interview on THEMA 104.6 radio, with journalist Pantelis Kapsis and Dona Droutsa.

Asked about the new Turkish Navtex and whether it impacts the exploratory talks, the Alternate Minister highlighted that “issuing and executing a Navtex are two different things, and there will need to be a proportionate response if the Navtex is carried out in the end. Turkey’s overall conduct is what is being evaluated. And it isn't being evaluated by just Greece; it is being evaluated by the whole of the international community.

Regarding the developments in the Cyprus issue, Mr. Varvitsiotis recalled that our country’s firm stance is that the solution must be based on a bizonal, bicommunal federation, in accordance with the Resolutions of the UN Security Council.
