A meeting with dairy sector organizations took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today, Friday, 18 October, with the participation of the Minister of Rural Development and Food, Makis Voridis, and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Economic Diplomacy, Kostas Fragogiannis. The two Ministers called the meeting to set down the views on the export potential and protection Greek products enjoy in international markets.
Officials from both Ministries participated in the meeting. The two Ministers and the representatives of the dairy industry organizations had an in-depth discussion on:
● the protection of Greek producers and strengthening of controls to guarantee compliance with the law,
● the European Union’s international trade agreements with third countries and the need to preserve negotiated agreements that favour Greek exports,
● the need to refer to EU bodies every violation observed in member states, having first ensured compliance on the part of the Greek side,
● upgrading of the commercial attaché network by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs so as to to improve promotion of exports and checking of exports’ competitiveness in markets abroad,
● the prime minister’s initiative, which is being implemented by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and involves changing the architecture of the country’s image in order to improve the commercial value of exports.
The Secretary General for International Economic Relations and Openness, Grigoris Dimitriadis, and the Secretary General for Rural Development and Food, Giorgos Stratakos, undertook a commitment to keep in close touch with the sector’s organizations and enterprises in order to optimise coordination of actions under way in the EU and to monitor issues of concern to the sector. The ultimate goal is for the two ministries to support the efforts of dairy enterprises, dairy sector professionals and dairy manufacturers to promote and protect exports of Greek products in international markets.
