Minister of Foreign Affairs George Gerapetritis’ statement to ERT TV following his visit to Qatar, Israel and the Palestinian Territories (03.02.2025)

A round of significant meetings for Greek diplomacy in the wider Middle East region has been concluded. With the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia a few days ago, with the Prime Minister of Qatar yesterday, with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Israel and with the Palestinian Prime Minister in Ramallah today. And with the King of Jordan and Minister of Foreign Affairs tomorrow. A significant round of contacts, which precisely reflects Greece’s important diplomatic capital in the region.

At a very critical juncture, Greece is present in developments in the Middle East.

I had the opportunity to visit the Patriarchate of Jerusalem and to exchange views with Patriarch Theophilos on the situation of the Patriarchate, the state of the Greek Orthodox community and the future of the region.

Greece will undertake initiatives within the framework of the European Union, as well as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, to increase the humanitarian aid channeled to the region.

At the moment, our primary concern is to consolidate the ceasefire agreement in the region and to ensure that the Middle East becomes a viable region for everyone.
