Minister of Foreign Affairs George Gerapetritis will travel to New York on September 20, 2026, to participate in the High-Level Week of the 81st Session of the UN General Assembly.
Mr. Gerapetritis' schedule includes numerous high-level meetings and engagements with Ministers of Foreign Affairs from Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Africa, the Caribbean and Latin America. He will also hold a bilateral meeting with the President of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly, Khalilur Rahman.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs’ meetings will focus on the crisis in the Middle East, the war in Ukraine, developments in Sub-Saharan Africa, as well as contemporary global challenges, such as reform of the United Nations and the strengthening of multilateral cooperation.
Mr. Gerapetritis will participate in trilateral meetings of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Greece-Cyprus-Egypt and Greece-Cyprus-Jordan, as well as in the Greece-Romania-Bulgaria-Croatia quadrilateral cooperation format.
In the context of the 81st General Assembly Session, the Minister of Foreign Affairs will attend a Ministerial Working Dinner on the Middle East. He will also participate in the Informal Meeting of the Friends of the Western Balkans Group, the Informal Meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council, as well as the Ministerial Meeting of the Group of Friends on Safety and Security of Shipping and Seafarers.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs will also participate in an event on Artificial Intelligence, co-organised by Greece and India.
During his stay in New York, Mr. Gerapetritis will speak at an event at Columbia University, co-organised by the Arnold A. Saltzman Institute of War and Peace Studies, Columbia University’s European Institute and the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Public Humanities Initiative (SNFPHI), entitled “Between Power and Principles: Conducting Foreign Policy in a World in Transition”.
