Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yiannis Loverdos, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on behalf of the Greek Government with the Executive Director of the International Alliance for the Protection of Heritage (ALIPH Foundation), Valéry Freland, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on April 15.
Through this Memorandum of Understanding, the two parties affirm their shared goal of protecting and restoring cultural heritage, and combating the looting and illicit trafficking of cultural property, a pressing issue for all nations that requires decisive action.
The mission of the ALIPH Foundation is to protect cultural heritage that is threatened both by conflict in war-torn regions and by the dramatic consequences of climate change.
Greece recognizes the crucial role that the protection, conservation, and restoration of both tangible and intangible cultural heritage play in promoting social, economic, and sustainable development, intercultural and interfaith dialogue, reconciliation among peoples, and the building of peace.
In this context, Greece and ALIPH, through the signing of today's Memorandum, continue the fruitful cooperation they began in January 2022, uniting and coordinating their efforts through joint actions for another three-year period.
The signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation was attended by the Secretary General for Greeks Abroad and Public Diplomacy, Mrs Maira Myrogianni, ALIPH's Strategic Partnerships Officer, Mr. Harry Tarpey, as well as officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Culture.
