The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is mourning the loss of Ambassador (ad hon) Christos Zacharakis. He was an outstanding diplomat who served Greece in positions of responsibility and was distinguished for his ethos and professionalism.
Christos Zacharakis joined the Diplomatic Service in 1964. He served in New York, Copenhagen, and at the Consulate General in Istanbul. He also served as Consul General of Greece in Alexandria.
Furthermore, he was appointed Ambassador of Greece to Nicosia, Washington and London, Permanent Representative of Greece to NATO and the United Nations, and Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He was a Member of the European Parliament from 1999 to 2004.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, as well as the political and service leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, extend their deepest condolences to his family and relatives.
